Thanks guys.... glad you think its ok as it is. First look at the bone version (which is actually a complete new model, not just a retexture of the wooden one): Bone recurve bowAny ideas on detail welcome. Or shall I leave this one as it is as well? I'm having trouble exporting the animations at the moment - Max just crashes. Everything looks fine when I preview it Max but I'm obviously missing something. I'll have to speak to Phil again (poor bloke).

The bone bow looks great. It has a really nice flowing shape. ;D However, I somehow feel that a not so shiny (or reflective) handle would look better on this one, Maybe a more rustic look. That's just me, though. Feel free to disregard anything I say. (PS: the forum needs more smilies )

I find feedabck to be a most valuable resource in getting something just right, so I rarely just disregard it, mate. And it so happens I agree... something a bit darker... maybe a dark enamel finish with silver symbols on?

The bone part reminds me of the horns of some long dead animal that bleached for ages in some windswept desert. That means I like it As for the middle thingie, I would prefer it similar to the bone in color. Maybe cause "bone" makes me think of something pale and ghostly. A darker middle part would disturb that image.

Thanks Ashe - do you mean you prefer it as it is? Or that it should be a pale enamel finish? I'm not sure myself....

Hmm, enamel ... is that porcelain? I don´t know ... its hard for me to envision that, but it could look good if it would have some very small ornaments. Maybe polished ivory?

I like the color of the bow as is. I like the shiney silver. But the dark ebony with silver symbols also sounds pretty. I know - do both. And a purple and blue version. And a red and black one as well :bolt: One suggestion? I don't even know if this is doable. The silver looks like it is sitting on top of the bone. Would it be possible to have it look more embedded? It's not that big a deal and most likely won't even show up on when the bow is being used, but in my (never) humble opinion, it'd look better in the close-ups

I'll try and produce a shot to illustrate what I mean Ashe. Lady R - you don't want much do you? ;D Like I said, I'll let you do the multi-coloured ones Now then, the silver plating... it took me quite a long time to make the folded pieces for the handle and match the curves to the shape of the bow arms, my intention being for them to look like seperate plates that wrap around the bone.... and now you want me to make it look like its molded....?

And once more introducing Niamh, resurrected... complete with new higher poly head, glow-mapped eyes and soon (fingers crossed) blinking eyes and moving mouth.... Here she is The sword is currently included in MJY's weapon replacer but it will be in the armoury as well, sporting a new sheath.

That sounds good! ;D What I had envisioned when I said "a more rustic look" was a darker shade of the bone texture, coupled with maybe some engraved runes or elven motif (like the leaves pattern you used on the green Ymsidril) in the same tone. Just a thought. Yes! More reflective-mapped longswords! That's one of my favorites. Oh, and Niamh looks great, with that "Say hello to my little friend" attitude.

Thankee kindly folks. I finally (with a bit of further help from Phil) managed to get the bow animated. Woohoo! So here's a quick shot of it in action: Niamh trying it for sizeThe string needs setting up properly and the other tweaks we discussed... but I'm just well pleased with making my first working bow... Thank Phil. And thanks to all of you for providing the moral support.
